Why we choose LUXVISION PROLUX Rugged for scoreboards

Our view as the integrator: a scoreboard needs to be built for the sports environment and practical to repair throughout its working life.

Why we choose PROLUX Rugged for scoreboards

When we recommend a scoreboard, we are also choosing equipment that someone will need to maintain. We want a display that suits the sports environment, can be installed properly, and can be repaired without turning a failed component into a major disruption.

That is why we choose LUXVISION PROLUX Rugged for indoor scoreboard installations. Impact protection, mechanical module retention, front service access, included spares, and warranty replenishment all influence our recommendation. The picture needs to look good on opening day, and the system needs to remain practical to own.

Built for the room where it will be used

A gym scoreboard can be hit by a basketball or volleyball during ordinary use. PROLUX Rugged is purpose-built for that environment. Its protective mask, module chassis, metal fasteners, cabinet, and mounting work together to manage impact.

We choose it because impact protection is part of the product’s engineering, from the face of the display through to the cabinet and its mounting.

Engineered to make installation and service easier

Every part of PROLUX Rugged’s design helps us do our job. Mounting provisions for hanging, corner, and wall-mounted configurations are integrated directly into the cabinet. Cabinet alignment, module attachment, cable connections, and component access are considered together.

That attention to detail carries through installation and service. The quarter-turn module locks provide a positive mechanical connection, and front access puts the serviceable components within reach. We value a manufacturer that has thought through how the display will be assembled, installed, and maintained.

Included spares mean repairs can happen immediately

Electronic components can fail. An LED wall contains a large number of LED’s, driver circuits, connections, and power components. What matters to us is having the parts on hand to restore the display when something fails.

LUXVISION supplies spare parts with the initial display. If a module, power supply, receiving card, or cable fails, we can use the supplied spare to repair the wall immediately. There is no need to wait for a replacement component to be shipped before making that repair.

Then we return the failed component to LUXVISION. They repair or replace the covered component at no charge and send it back to replenish the spare stock. The display is working while that process takes place.

That replenishment continues through the seven-year warranty period. At the end of the warranty, the customer still has a full complement of working spare parts to maintain the display in the years ahead. This is a major reason we choose LUXVISION: the spare-parts package and repair process are designed to support the wall over the long term.

Same-batch spares are a major reason for our choice

A replacement module can work electrically and still stand out as a different-coloured rectangle. That is a poor result on a display expected to show consistent team colours, sponsor graphics, and video across its whole surface.

LUXVISION supplies matched-batch module spares and retains modules from the wall’s production batch for warranty replacement. If a module fails, its replacement comes from the same batch as the installed display. That consistency is a major reason we choose the product.

We include spare quantities, batch identification, configuration files, and calibration records in the project’s service planning. Matching the original batch gives a repair a better starting point for colour consistency. We also check the replacement on the installed wall because operating hours, brightness, temperature, and calibration affect how modules look together.

Technology lesson Why LED batches can look different

LED production begins with semiconductor chips. Small variations in the manufacturing process can change the wavelength, light output, and electrical characteristics of the red, green, and blue LED’s. Manufacturers measure and sort LED’s into bins to group devices with similar performance. Using the same nominal specification does not make every production batch identical.

The chips are packaged with optical and protective materials. Depending on the LED design, the encapsulant may use silicone or epoxy. Its optical properties, manufacturing consistency, and ageing behaviour can influence the light that leaves the package.

LED packages are mounted on circuit boards alongside driver electronics and other components to make modules. Module production runs also have identifiable hardware and configuration details. Replacement compatibility therefore involves more than matching the module’s physical dimensions or pixel pitch.

Calibration uses measurements of brightness and colour, often with cameras and reference instruments, to calculate corrections for the display. Those corrections help modules present a more uniform image. They need to be retained and applied correctly when a module or receiving card is replaced.

Different LED batches can respond differently at different brightness levels and operating temperatures. An unused spare also has a different operating history from a module that has run for years. Calibration can improve a match, but it cannot be assumed to remove every material or ageing difference. That is why we value original-batch spares alongside configuration records and on-wall checks.

Quarter-turn metal locks instead of magnetic module retention

PROLUX Rugged secures its modules using quarter-turn metal locking mechanisms that engage the metal cabinet. The module stays mechanically attached while retaining the access needed for service.

This is a feature we care about in a sports environment. The protective mask and module structure take the initial contact, and the mechanically fastened assembly transfers the load into the cabinet and mounting.

A magnetically retained module can be displaced by an impact if the force exceeds its retention. Depending on the design, a cable or safety restraint may limit its movement. We prefer PROLUX Rugged’s positive mechanical attachment for this application. The metal locking hardware also avoids relying on a plastic latch at that connection.

Efficient operation and lower ownership costs

PROLUX Rugged displays are efficient, helping reduce electricity use and heat during operation. That efficiency typically contributes to a lower total cost of ownership than comparable displays over the same operating period. Actual savings depend on display size, brightness, content, and operating hours.

Manufacturer support that keeps the display in service

LUXVISION’s support process follows the way we want a scoreboard maintained: use the included spare to get the wall working, then return the failed component for repair or replacement and replenish the spare stock. Failed modules are replaced from the same production batch as the installed wall.

PROLUX has a seven-year limited product warranty. PROLUX Rugged also includes specific impact coverage for air-inflated balls over six inches in diameter, including basketballs and volleyballs. We establish the installation and service scope with the customer, including any labour, access equipment, or freight costs.

A display customers are proud to recommend

LUXVISION takes pride in showing prospective customers its displays, including installations that have been operating for years. The aim is for an existing customer to be enthusiastic about the product long after installation, and for the display to look as good five years later as it did on the first day.

Not every customer wants their facility used for demonstrations. LUXVISION approaches each project with that same ambition for the finished result: a display worth showing, with the parts and service process to keep it looking good. If the picture needs attention, the goal is to put it right.

We share that approach at XL AV. Our customers are our strongest advocates, and we value the recommendations that come from the products we install and the service we provide. We want customers to be proud of their scoreboard and comfortable recommending us years after the project is complete.
