Room planning 01

Start with the operator’s work

Define what people monitor, decide, and control during a shift.

XL AV starts with the operating workflow: who uses the room, which information they need together, and how they respond to a change. Facilities monitoring, security operations, network operations, and coordination rooms can have very different source and control requirements.

We identify routine tasks, escalation scenarios, shift handovers, and collaboration needs. The design distinguishes information shown to the whole team from material needed only at an individual workstation. Example dashboards and real operating scenarios help establish the layout.

Room planning 02

Shared video walls and local displays

Size and position images around the information people need to see.

A shared media wall can present an overview while local monitors support detailed work. Display dimensions, source resolution, window sizes, and viewing distances are considered together. Enlarging a low-resolution source does not restore detail in small text.

We assess the intended content from representative seats, including positions at the sides of the room. A useful layout preserves the visibility of important status information and lets operators bring relevant detail forward without losing the shared overview.

Room planning 03

Fine-pitch LUXVISION LED displays

Select pixel pitch, image size, and brightness for the room.

For a continuous LED media wall, XL AV can evaluate LUXVISION ECOLUX HD X against the required image detail, viewing distance, and installed dimensions. The display family uses fine-pitch COB technology; the selected configuration must support the proposed content and operating conditions.

Brightness should suit sustained viewing and the room lighting. We also plan mounting, power, ventilation, service access, and spare components with the display system. The processor and receiving hardware are selected as part of the complete signal path.

Room planning 04

Video processing, canvas layouts, and presets

Arrange several sources across the required display destinations.

A video-wall processor places source windows on a pixel canvas and maps the result to the physical outputs. XL AV defines the native canvas, simultaneous source count, layouts, and independent display destinations before selecting processing capacity.

NovaStar H-Series is an option for appropriate multi-source and LED configurations. We verify the chassis, input/output cards, supported formats, receiver compatibility, and layout limits for the actual project. Saved presets can provide an overview, a focused operating view, or a shared presentation arrangement.

Room planning 05

Source connections and signal routing

Bring required feeds to the wall and the right workstations.

Sources can include workstation outputs, approved camera feeds, operational dashboards, maps, conferencing equipment, and media systems. We document each connection, format, access requirement, and destination. The proposed interface must support the required signal.

Some sources need direct video connections; others may use compatible network transport or application interfaces. A video processor does not automatically replace the software that records cameras, performs analytics, or manages the underlying operational data. Those systems remain separate integration responsibilities.

Room planning 06

KVM and workstation access

Separate viewing a source from controlling its computer.

Where operators need keyboard and mouse access to remote computers, we assess a compatible KVM system or supported remote-access method. The design identifies which workstation can control which source and how control is granted, transferred, or released.

XL AV coordinates USB requirements, latency expectations, authorization, and user feedback with IT. Displaying a desktop on a wall alone does not provide computer control. Shared access, restricted systems, and simultaneous operators need a defined operating procedure.

Room planning 07

Ergonomics, lighting, and sightlines

Coordinate the wall, desks, and room environment.

We review the relationship between workstation monitors and the shared wall, including viewing angles, obstructions, reflections, and the movement needed to alternate between them. Room lighting should support desk work and camera use without washing out displayed information.

Console positions, accessible circulation, equipment heat, ventilation, and service access are coordinated with the furniture and building teams. Acoustic conditions also affect speech and concentration. These requirements belong in the room plan before equipment positions are fixed.

Room planning 08

Audio, communications, and hybrid coordination

Make important speech and source audio available where needed.

A control room may need selected source audio, conferencing, or team briefings. We establish which audio is shared, which belongs at a workstation or headset, and how operators select or adjust it. Multiple unrestricted audio feeds can make the room difficult to use.

For hybrid coordination, microphones, camera coverage, echo cancellation, and remote playback are designed around the room’s participants. Where the project includes operational alerts, we agree how they are presented and prioritized with the system owner.

Room planning 09

AV networks and controlled access

Plan capacity and permissions across the complete architecture.

Networked AV requires adequate endpoint ports, uplinks, stream handling, addressing, and the relevant discovery and timing services. XL AV develops the AV requirements with IT and tests the selected routes under representative simultaneous use.

We agree management access, permitted control functions, and the separation of sensitive sources. User permissions, network policy, and application access must align. Remote administration follows the customer’s approved access method and ownership arrangements.

Room planning 10

Resilience, power, and service planning

Define the interruptions the room must be able to handle.

Read moreShow less about Resilience, power, and service planning

We establish which sources and display functions are essential, what interruption is acceptable, and how staff should continue operating after a failure. Backup sources, power arrangements, spare equipment, and redundant paths are considered against those requirements.

Continuous-operation requirements need equipment, cooling, maintenance access, and support arrangements selected for that duty. We test the agreed failure and recovery behaviour. A redundant component does not remove every dependency or establish uninterrupted operation for the entire room.

Room planning 11

Controls that follow the workflow

Give operators clear ways to recall layouts and manage sources.

Read moreShow less about Controls that follow the workflow

Routine controls can include source selection, wall presets, audio routing, and defined room modes. We organize those functions around the operator’s task, with clear labels and feedback showing the selected state.

Access to configuration changes may be restricted while approved layouts remain available to operators. We test common tasks and shift-handover procedures with the customer. The interface should make the intended action clear without requiring staff to reconstruct the signal path.

Room planning 12

Commissioning, training, and handover

Verify real operating scenarios and document the installed system.

Read moreShow less about Commissioning, training, and handover

Acceptance checks can include source visibility, information legibility, layout recall, workstation control where provided, audio, user permissions, and the agreed recovery scenarios. We test representative simultaneous operation rather than an isolated source demonstration.

XL AV provides the documentation, configuration backups, and operator training included in the project scope. Bring the room plan, operator positions, source inventory, example content, operating hours, and continuity requirements to a consultation. These establish the integration scope and responsibilities for the complete room.
