Destinations and route information

Establish the campus information the system must present.

We identify buildings, room names, entrances, departments, services, and common visitor journeys. The campus establishes an authoritative source for maps and destination names.

Route information should reflect actual access, including accessible routes and temporary restrictions where supported. Content accuracy and approval responsibilities are agreed before launch.

Interactive and passive displays

Choose the interface for each location.

A touch directory can support destination searches, while a passive sign may show building information or directions for an event. Screen placement, user approach, touch reach, glare, and content size affect the design.

The selected software must support the required maps, directory data, and interaction. A display or media player alone does not supply an accurate routing application.

Data and publishing integration

Keep destinations and events current.

We assess whether room calendars, directories, or other approved campus systems can supply data through supported interfaces. Updates, validation, and failure behaviour need defined responsibilities.

The design establishes publishing roles, account ownership, network access, and the process for changing maps or temporary destination information.

Accessibility and alternative access

Plan information that people can use.

We review contrast, text, controls, positioning, and the way routes are described with the campus accessibility team. Optional mobile handoff or other interfaces are specified when supported.

Emergency route instructions require coordination with the campus’s approved procedures and responsible specialists. Routine wayfinding content should follow the intended scope of the system.

Testing and operation

Verify real destinations and update workflows.

Acceptance testing covers representative searches, routes, event updates, unavailable data, and the supported interaction methods. The campus confirms destination accuracy and access information.

Training and documentation cover publishing, routine checks, reported errors, and ownership of map and directory maintenance.
