What is AVIXA? Training, certifications, standards, and industry events
A guide to the association, professional learning resources, and events behind much of the commercial AV industry.

All Technology & TrainingAn industry association for professional AV
AVIXA stands for the Audiovisual and Integrated Experience Association. It represents the professional audiovisual industry and provides education, certification programmes, standards resources, market information, and opportunities for industry collaboration.
For a customer planning an AV system, the useful connection is the work behind the equipment: understanding the application, documenting the design, coordinating installation, checking performance, and training the people who operate it. Industry resources can support those activities alongside manufacturer-specific knowledge.

Training for people who design, install, and operate AV
AVIXA offers learning paths, on-demand resources, and instructor-led training. Subjects span AV fundamentals, design, installation, project processes, and networking. Course formats, access, fees, and schedules should be checked in the current catalogue.
An institution’s technology team may need a broad understanding of signal paths and troubleshooting, while an installer may need deeper preparation for building and testing systems. XL AV recommends matching learning to the responsibilities of the role. Product-specific configuration and practical room training remain separate parts of preparing staff.

CTS, CTS-D, CTS-I, and ANP
CTS means Certified Technology Specialist. AVIXA also offers specialized CTS-D credentials for design and CTS-I credentials for installation. A current CTS is required before earning those specialized designations. ANP, the Audiovisual Network Professional certification, focuses on AV networking; That exam does not require CTS.
Completing a course and earning a certification are different achievements. Buyers can ask which individuals will perform the work and what experience and qualifications apply to their roles. A credential is one input to that evaluation; the project scope, documentation, testing, and delivery responsibilities still need to be agreed.

Standards and documented project requirements
AVIXA publishes standards and guidance for professional AV practice. These resources can help project teams establish consistent terminology and defined methods for planning, documentation, and performance verification.
For XL AV, the practical task is to turn customer requirements into a scope that can be designed and checked. That can include intended viewing positions, audio activities, room modes, system drawings, and acceptance tests. Applicable standards and required deliverables should be identified for the particular project, with the necessary documents obtained through their authorized sources.

InfoComm, Integrated Systems Europe, and industry learning
AVIXA produces InfoComm trade shows internationally and co-owns Integrated Systems Europe with CEDIA. These events combine product exhibits with opportunities for professional education, discussion, and technical demonstrations.
A productive visit begins with project requirements: a teaching-room workflow to improve, an audio problem to investigate, or a display configuration to evaluate. Demonstrations can help compare approaches, but the final selection still needs to fit the actual site. Event dates, course availability, registration, and education fees should be confirmed with the organizer.

Putting industry knowledge to work in your project
XL AV helps customers define the activities a system must support, select equipment, coordinate infrastructure, configure operation, and verify the agreed result. We also establish handover and operator-training requirements so staff can use the installed system.
This article explains AVIXA’s resources and credentials. It does not represent an AVIXA endorsement or a claim that every XL AV or partner team member holds a particular certification. Project qualifications and responsibilities can be discussed for the people assigned to your work.
